Every villiage had soldier's who were killed during World War I and Tropea was no exception. Today, Tropea has a beautiful monument for these soldiers who died in Combat during World War I. The picture in the left is a photograph taken by David Ayoub of that monument. Below is a list of soldiers from that monument.
Because my family surname from Tropea is Scrugli, my friend Riccardo Bruno obtained the following information from the Italian Military Archives.
Scrugli Domenico son of Michele - Soldier 7° Reggimento Artiglieria da fortezza, born on 30th June 1886 in Tropea, died on 30th May 1915 in Tropea from disease
Scrugli Giuseppe son of Gaetano - soldier 132° Reggimento Fanteria, born on 24th August 1887 in Tropea, died on 4th July 1916 in the little camp hospital n.46 because wounded while fighting
Scrugli Matteo son of Giuseppe - soldier 221° Reggimento Fanteria, born on 24 August 1887 in Tropea and died on 19th august 1917 on Carso area because wounded while fighting
Scrugli Rosario son of Domenico - Soldier 29° Reggimento Fanteria born on 7th Oct 1898 in Rosarsno, died on 20th June 1918 in the 4th Surgey ambulance of the army, because wounded while fighting
